Tell us about your fitness journey. How did you come to Farmgirlfit?

I had a co-worker who had joined, and then turned out it was the same place that a friend of mine went to also. After I joined, I found out that several other friends also attended. I’m an active person, but I’ve never considered myself an athlete. I’ve done yoga for almost 15 years, but had never done much with weights or cardio.

Over the years at a desk job, I was finding it harder to do what I enjoyed. But I got bored easily with workouts and had found group classes too competitive and not supportive. FGF hit all the sweet spots! Diverse workouts that include SO many different types of exercises, supportive and encouraging women, and I’m getting stronger!

What has been your greatest fitness/performance accomplishment so far?

Weights! I don’t think I’d ever lifted a barbell, and it was very intimidating.

What are your next health and fitness goals?

I want to get strong! Sure, I’d love to lose some weight in the process but that isn’t my primary goal.

Favorite exercise at FGF is?

Tabatas! I had a big gardening chore at home, digging out a large bed. I found myself digging for 20 seconds and resting for 10! Least favorite?  Running.  I’ve never been very comfortable when running, I feel like nothing on my body is moving the right way and I’m about 3 seconds away from tripping.

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is:

The incredible amount of support and encouragement I receive.  I am not at all confident in my athletic abilities or my path towards improving myself. I get pretty down on myself when I feel like I should be making more progress, or when I struggle with exercises that I know I should be better at. But I always feel better when someone gives me a high five, or a quick “you can do it,” or an acknowledgement when I get a new PR.

How has the rest of your life been influenced/impacted by Farmgirlfit?

Well, besides Tabata gardening, πŸ‘©‍πŸŒΎπŸ˜‚ I’m a type 1 diabetic, so getting in better shape has really helped me have better control of my blood sugars.

When you're not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

I work with a local animal rescue organization, and I volunteer with my dog Dempsey at our local Shriners Hospital as a pet therapy team. I’m also an avid knitter and amateur gardener.

Do you have a funny Farmgirlfit story, or favorite memory?

We were getting ready to start an AMRAP workout with stations, and I lined up at the wall to start off with Wall Balls. Someone from behind in the room yelled “Your butt is looking good!” I turned around to find nearly everyone else in the class lined up at a station across the room grinning. How embarrassing but funny…and ummm, thanks! πŸ˜˜πŸ‘

Who/what inspires you to be fit?

The regulars in the 6:30am class - they are all SO incredibly strong and I’m always amazed by how much weight they lift, or how fast they can run right after all those quad burner squats!

Any advice for new members or your fellow farmgirls?

Keep doing it! Even if you’re the worst one in the class, even if you can’t get past a Level 2 workout after two years, like me. My yoga teacher used to always say “we’re on our own journey” so as long as you’re improving yourself, it’s worth the time and effort.
